DVD Releases for Week of 12/11/2012

A short list of DVD releases thois week, but mostly good ones!

'The Bourne Legacy' - Jeremy Renner is not quite the 'Bourne' that Matt Damon was and 'The Bourne Legacy' is not quite the Bourne film as the previous films were, but it does prove that the Bourne franchise has more tales to tell. Renner is certainly well suited to take over the reins and does just about as good as he can with an overly burdened script. In trying to reboot the franchise, the writers try a little too hard to explain just how there are more sleeper agents other than Jason Bourne. I suspect that in the next chapter, they will strive more to focus on the action and less on the complicated mythology. In that case, Renner will be a perfect fit! Not a bad rental at all on a cold, winters night and a fairly good follow-up in the Bourne series.

'Ted' - 'Family Guy' creator Seth McFarlane turns Teddy Ruxpin on his ear and into a foul mouthed best friend for John (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who has a teddy bear that magically came to life. Taking the 'bromance; concept to hilarious heights, 'Ted' is not your kids talking bear movie; rather, it is a very adult comedy that will leave your side in stitches and tears in your eyes. While the script can be scattered at times and the ending is just a little too typical than it should have been, it is filled with genuine laughs and sometimes touching moments. The outtakes alone are well worth the cost of owning this hilarious DVD!

'Ice Age: Continental Drift' - The third time is not really the charm as the animated antics of the prehitoric beasts played by Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leuizamo and new members Queen Latifah and Sean Williams Scott, just seemed recycled at this point. That being said, I am sure the kids will get a kick out of it and it will be something good to put on while you sneak away to wrap gifts.
